Communications Specialist
My name is Stephen Colwell and I want to thank you for taking a few minutes to read up on me. I think this site tells you most of what you need to know about me professionally. My work experience, education and personal skills have developed me into a well-rounded sports communications specialist.
Currently, I work for Pflugerville Independent School District as the district's Communications Specialist. I'm the district's photographer, news writer, videographer and video editor, and I'm responsible for maintaining and updating the district's 10,000 page website.
I got my start at York College - a small Christian college in Nebraska - where I got my feet wet with play-by-play sports broadcasting on the radio, then evolved into the newspaper world where I worked from 2007-2011. I was the Assistant Sports Editor at a daily paper covering 12 high schools and an NAIA college, later ran my own sports photography company around the Austin, TX area, and most recently was the sports editor for Highland Lakes Publishing, a group of three newspapers in the Hill Country west of Austin.
For the last two major league baseball seasons I have worked part-time as a GameDay broadcaster for the Round Rock Express, the Texas Rangers Triple-A affiliate, where I work hand-in-hand with the official scorekeeper to provide online play-by-play action for internet viewers.
I've been blessed to have jobs that have taught me a wide range of skills and made me a very versatile employee. If it has to do with sports, I can do it. If it's media related, I can do it. Take a look around my site to see some of the work I've done, then let me know how I can help your organization.
